Malibu Open Space Alliance

Protecting mountains and meadows, bluffs and creeks

The Malibu Open Space Alliance (MOSA) is a coalition of residents and conservation organizations that are dedicated to preserving Malibu's open space.

OPEN SPACE AT RISK AS CITY PLANS TO DEVELOP BLUFFS PRESERVE

LOCATION: Near Civic Center, on 84 prime acres of undeveloped preserve land adjacent to Pacific Coast Highway and across from Pepperdine, with incredible ocean views and rare plant and animal habitat.

As the City initiates plans to develop Bluffs Open Space Preserve, the time is right to reflect on Joni Mitchell’s compelling lyrics from 1967-1968.

They took all the trees
And put them in a tree museum
And they charged all the people
A dollar and a half to see 'em
Don't it always seem to go
That you don't know what you've got
Till it's gone
They paved paradise
And they put up a parking lot”

Should Bluffs Open Space Preserve be developed for active recreation, the majority of the precious natural habitat will be gone forever. Indeed, they will have paved Malibu’s last bluff-top public paradise by putting in two parking lots and three ballfields.
